Hello My Name Is...

Robert Mitchell

5th Grade Teacher

My name is Robert Tyree Mitchell. I was born and raised in Silverhill, Alabama, a rural town in
Baldwin County, Alabama. I am the oldest of three, a younger brother and sister.

I attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama for my freshman and sophomore years. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Currently, I am working on a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Strayer University. In addition, I am a full-time student at Birmingham School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama.

After graduation, I worked with University Instructors as a Math and Reading Interventionist. The following year, I became a Math Interventionist at Erwin Intermediate School in the Jefferson County School System. Soon after, I was hired as a fifth grade Social Studies teacher at Erwin Elementary Intermediate School which gave me my introduction to a classroom teacher. Immediately following my employment with Erwin Intermediate School, I was employed with Fairfield City School System as a fifth grade teacher for a number of years. Currently, I hold the position as a fifth grade teacher in the Jefferson County School System at the Chalkville Elementary School. I am excited to have the opportunity to empower, enrich, and motivate young minds thus being a catalyst to equip students with the tools to change their world.

My educational motto is: “Education is not only academic but it is emotional, social, academic and physical. The essential part of learning takes place when teachers commit to teaching the whole child anchored in effective instructional methods and utilize differentiated learning strategies to ignite a passion for learning in all students.”
